Theodore Bikel (born May 2, 1924) is an Austrian-born character actor and Jewish folk singer. He was nominated for an Academy award at one point.
Writes Theodore: "Whenever there is talk of the fabric and texture of contemporary Jewish culture, uppermost in my mind is the fate of yiddish. There was a time when in the mind of American Jews, Yiddish was merely the quanit memory of Bubbe's edearments of Zeyde's admonishents ... My early recordings attest to that conviction and so I welcome the continued appearence of those recordings in any form accesible by modern technology.
